Time cycle varies widely, sometimes two projects a year, more commonly two years per project! Well, projects of this size anyway -- we do dozens of smaller projects each year as well, but most of those don't need full blown audio/lighting software, we just use off-the-shelf hardware from the likes of Gilderfluke or Alcorn McBride.
Given that this is what you do, you are probably familiar with all your comparables, but if not you should definitely download the demos and fool around with AV Stumpfl's Wing Platinum (Austrian company) and Medialon Manage (French, I believe). Both have timeline based programming -- Wings is the best/easiest to program out there, but you need their hardware to run many timelines simultaneously (will your software support that function?-- another critical feature for complex shows). Medialon Manager is essentially limitless, but (a) expensive, and (b) requires you to know quite a bit about computers to make it behave -- definitely not entry level software.
